Children are injured at home more often than we might wish to admit. In fact, home injuries account for approximately one-third of all unintentional injuries1 (a.k.a. accidents), which are the leading cause of death for children. In 2001, 5,526 children under 14 years of age died from unintentional injuries; and in 2002, more than 6.5 million were seen in emergency departments (CDC 2004).

Topping the list of unintentional injuries and deaths at home includes falls, poisonings, fires/burns, inhalation and suffocation, and drownings. Teach children how to be safe at home by being a role model, safety proofing the home and teaching children what to do during an emergency. A good place to start is by giving parents and children our NEW I'm Safe! At Home Safety activity book.
