Summer Safety Resources

We like to remind ourselves of how important it is to support parents when it comes to summer safety awareness. Safe Kids Worldwide found that unintentional injuries and deaths to children ages 0 to 14 increase during the summer. These recent statistics shed light on some key topics:

  • Motor vehicle crashes still cause 1 out of every 4 unintentional injury deaths to children (IIHS).
  • Drowning is the second leading cause of death among 1- to 4-year-olds at a massive 30%.
  • For children younger than 6 years, NCPC reports about 38 poisoning exposures for every 1000 children.

While the summer brings warmth and fun, it also often feels far too fleeting. With so many children being home for the summer come inherent risks, and they are ones that can often be avoided when parents are educated and prepared.

The National Safety Council (NSC), a leading safety advocacy organization, provides a great summer safety tips resources page, which features topics like beat the heat, fireworks, playgrounds, skateboarding, water safety, and more. At I’m Safe, some popular Summer Safety resources are:

  • Summer Safety Adventure Activity Book: Information on child passenger safety, bike safety, safe swimming and drowning prevention, playground safety, as well as some home safety.
  • Water Watcher Tags: Encourage parents to engage in active supervision when children are in or around pools and open water.
  • First Aid Kit: A 15-piece first aid kit that comes in a variety of rainbow colors while providing essential emergency relief. All materials can be customized with your logo and safety messages!

We are dedicated to helping communities to teach children not only how to act safely and responsibly, but to think safely and responsibly. With products on topics ranging from bike safety to child passenger safety and pedestrian safety to water safety, the summer is a great time to find whatever resources you might be looking for.
