5-1700 Home Safety Education Kit for Head Start

“Home” is often thought of as a safe place and yet researchers estimate that four million emergency visits occur each year due to childhood injuries in private homes.* Our “I’m Safe! at Home” kit helps children learn how to prevent common home injuries while it addresses Head Start requirements 1304.21, 1304.22 and 1304.40b. Through the fun activities, lessons and components in this kit, children and their families can learn how to avoid falls, poisonings, fire and burns, drowning and airway obstruction.

Parent involvement is encouraged through classroom volunteer opportunities, take-home letters and colorful handouts, activities that can be done with children, and the option to participate in a “Safe at Home Family Fun Night” where children share what they have learned about home safety with their families.

The I’m Safe! At Home Curriculum Kit includes:

• 1 - Head Start Home Safety Teacher's Guide & Masters: Provides quick-start guidelines, flexible activities to fit any time slot, parent participation masters, lesson plans, and pre- and post-test questions. Details: 8.5" x 11", 28 pages, one-color saddle stitched binding.

• 12 - Oversized Teaching Cards: 12 laminated teaching cards feature a colorful illustration on the front with home safety talking points and age appropriate activities on the back.
